102 قانون مجازات اسلامي، مرد را تا كمر و زن را تا بالاي سينه در گودالي فرو مي‌كنند و طبق مادة 104، با سنگ‌هايي كه نه چنان بزرگ باشد كه زجر زاني، زود به پايان رسد و نه چندان ريز كه سختي عقوبت بر جانش ننشيند، سنگسار مي‌كنند.مادة 103 همين قانون تصريح مي‌كند كه چنانچه اثبات جرم براساس شواهد و ادلة شاهدان عادل (چهار مرد عادل، يا سه مرد عادل و دو زن) باشد، فرار زاني از گودال حفرشده، كمكي به نجات محكوم نمي‌كند و او همچنان به قبر سنگ‌آجين‌شده‌اش بازگردانده خواهد شد تا در آن نفس آخرش را به پايان برد. ولي اگر فردي اقرار شخصي به زناي محصنه كند، در صورت گريز از گودال و سنگ، مي‌تواند جان به‌در برد و خونش به او بخشيده مي‌شود. مجازات سنگسار در كشور ايران شكل قانوني به خود گرفته است سنگسار این هم مقام انسانیتی که خمینی در کنار بقیه وعده هایش به ملت ایران داد The barbaric public stoning to death in IranIn stoning to death, the victims's hands are tied behind their backs and their bodies are put in a cloth sack.
